A pathway to

Embodied healing from trauma

— through connection with mind, body, self and others.

Welcome

I am Edwina Kempe – an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, trauma sensitive yoga facilitator, trainer and counsellor. I recognise that healing from trauma involves a very personal pathway that benefits from therapies for both mind and body. Through practices of embodied healing, trauma sensitive yoga and counselling, I hope to support individuals to connect with themselves, their bodies and with others as they journey towards recovery or further their professional development.

An integrated approach

Lived experience of trauma leaves its mark on not only the mind, but the heart, emotions, body and self. My approach to recovery connects each of these elements, drawing from evidence-based practice through my work as a mental health social worker, to Trauma Sensitive Yoga and embodied healing. Individuals are invited to reconnect with body and breath, explore talk therapy and guide their own recovery – or facilitate the journey of others – in a respectful, empowering space.

 Helping individuals connect to themselves,
their bodies and with others as part of their personal healing journey or professional development.

“Nurturing and calming…”

As a teacher, I found you equally as gentle and welcoming. Your presence was both nurturing and calming which assured me that there was a great level of safety from you and the program, which was important for me in attending.

“Incredibly useful…”

I found the trauma yoga practice incredibly useful. Primarily it was a time each week that I was able to nurture myself and practise being gentle with my body. It was the gentleness that I most liked about these yoga sessions. I really enjoyed the way you, Edwina, at all times offered choices about how we could move, affirming the notion that we know what’s best for our body.

Yoga and social
justice

The word ‘yoga’ has its origins in Sanskrit words, which can be translated as ‘connection’. To practise yoga is to deepen the connection between mind, body and self, but it also extends beyond this – to our connections with others and the community. These ethical principles of yoga – equality, indiscrimination and social justice – are fundamental to my approach to trauma recovery, and I invite individuals to explore these values both in their yoga practice and as they move through the world.
